About
bonanza

Bonanza Calf Nutrition was established to offer farmers in the UK and Ireland a range of superior milk replacer ingredients for rearing their dairy heifer replacements and beef calves.

Our partners are Bonilait who strive to be the best producers of milk replacer for dairy replacements and beef calves in Europe using milk from their own suppliers and continued investment in the latest drying and mixing technology with a capability of accurately including ingredients at dose rate of just 50ppm.

As such, we have access to 43 different types of milk, a vast range of ingredients that has allowed us to offer farmers low heat buttermilk and a wider range of fats, including formulations that don’t include palm or soya. Ewe milk has been introduced into our lamb milk replacers and goat milk into our kid milk formulas, offering animals a consistent product and their owners the security of full traceability back to source. All our milk replacer ingredients are dried using low heat and homogenisation technology.

Our formulations – Shine, Transformula, Ewe-reka and Milky Way – are used successfully on farms throughout Europe and are undisputed brand leaders. We are on a journey of continual improvement and therefore work with a wide range of research bodies to help improve calf rearing for our customers. And our Calf Chat forum and Novatec platform provide farmers and their staff with training and help when they need it.

The Team

We have a team of calf advisors who provide on-farm support to customers to improve their calf rearing, while also assisting them to reduce labour and other costs and to utilise existing farm buildings.

Tom Warren

Managing Director

After studying Agricultural Science at University College Dublin, Tom began his career in calf nutrition by running a commercial trial unit for an Irish dairy co-op while completing his Masters in Agricultural Science (M Agr Sc). He later held several commercial roles across both the UK and Ireland, gaining valuable experience in youngstock nutrition and farm advisory services. Tom then moved into the mineral supplement sector, where he was instrumental in developing a patented range of pre-lambing and pre-calving feeds, focused on improving maternal health and neonatal outcomes. In 2008, he founded Bonanza Calf Nutrition to offer a broader portfolio of specialised milk ingredients for rearing calves and lambs, based on both science and practical on-farm needs. Tom’s ethos centres around customer support and education - employing a team of dedicated calf advisors who work alongside farmers to become an extension of their rearing team, improving outcomes and confidence in youngstock management.

Joe Murphy

Division Manager

Joe Murphy began his career in calf nutrition after studying Agriculture at University College Dublin. With over 30 years’ experience working across the UK, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland, he has become a well-respected figure in youngstock management. Throughout his career, Joe has played a key role in shaping calf-rearing best practice across a wide range of systems. He has been instrumental in developing protocols for both once-a-day feeding and the use of automatic feeders, helping farmers improve calf performance while saving time and labour. Joe is known for combining practical, on-farm knowledge with a deep understanding of calf physiology and nutrition science. He was also the driving force behind the development and use of transition milk replacers, bridging the crucial gap between colostrum and milk feeding. Joe’s work continues to influence rearing practices across the industry, with a strong focus on calf health, welfare, and long-term productivity.

Selina Field

UK Sales Manager

Selina grew up on a dairy farm in Staffordshire, where her interest in livestock and calf rearing began. After completing her undergraduate degree at Bangor University, she worked for four years as an R-SQP at an agricultural merchant in Cheshire, advising farmers on milk replacer, animal health, grass seed, and minerals. In 2015, Selina joined Bonanza Calf Nutrition as a Regional Sales Manager, and in 2022, she achieved her MSc in Ruminant Nutrition from Harper Adams University. That same year, she was promoted to UK Sales Manager, overseeing a region stretching from the North Midlands to Scotland. Selina enjoys working closely with farmers, providing expert support to improve calf health and rearing practices. She’s passionate about helping customers overcome on-farm challenges and build more efficient systems. Outside of work, Selina is kept busy with her two young children. She enjoys walking, camping, and playing badminton in her spare time.

In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, walking her two Border Collies, and showing her ponies.

Dr Amanda Dunn

Sales and Technical Manager

Amanda studied Agricultural Technology at Queen’s University Belfast before going on to complete a PhD in calf immunity at AFBI Hillsborough. Her academic work focused on understanding how early-life nutrition and management can influence immune development in young calves — a foundation that continues to shape her practical approach today. For the past nine years, Amanda has worked in both sales and technical support with Bonanza Calf Nutrition, helping farmers across the country improve calf health and performance through evidence-based nutrition and rearing advice. Alongside her professional role, she remains hands-on with calf rearing on her family’s dairy farm, giving her real-world insight into the challenges and opportunities faced by farmers. Amanda is also a busy mum of two young girls, and when she’s not working or farming, she enjoys spending time with animals, going on country walks, baking at home, and catching up with friends.

Sam Baker

Regional Sales Manager - South West

Sam Baker is our regional representative for south west of England and uses her knowledge gained as a vet-tech and TB tester to support farmers seeking to optimise calf wellbeing and nutrition. Born and raised in west Cornwall, Sam spent five years working with local farmers in her role at one of the region’s largest farm animal practices following some time spent milking. Sam completed a degree in agriculture at Duchy College and enjoys being out and about meeting and talking to farmers. She was also in the first cohort to complete the brand new veterinary technician foundation degree which stands her in good stead to take a holistic view to calf and youngstock rearing, delivering value to farmers and trade customers.

Growing up next to a dairy farm, she spent much of her time outside school helping with milking and calf rearing, early experiences that sparked her passion for youngstock health and welfare. During her placement year, Amber worked as a calf rearer on a 250-cow organic dairy farm. Alongside her university studies, Amber further expanded her practical expertise working as a calf rearer on an 800-cow intensive dairy farm. There, she was responsible for the health, feeding, and welfare of calves from birth to weaning. In October 2022, Amber joined Bonanza Calf Nutrition as Regional Sales Manager for the Southwest.
